Santa

Objective:
Throw Santa as far as you can

Activity:
Play SlingShot Santa and produce your own data analysis to review and rate performance!

What you need:
Someone to play against
Basic spreadsheet skills
The ability to press your mouse button twice




Instructions:
1. Load Excel (or alternative spreadsheet)
2. Add two headings - 'Player' and 'Dropping Distance'
3. Play the game below
4. Record the details of each turn in your spreadsheet. [Note - the 'Upload your score' feature - created by the original authors of the game - doesn't work]
5. After 10 turns each, use Excel to calcuate the following things:
Remember you'll need to setup your own fomulae to do this!
  • Total distance Santa was thrown
  • Average distance Santa was thrown
  • Range of distances (i.e. difference between highest and lowest)
  • Total distance per player
  • Average per player
  • Contribution per player to total distance
6. Produce your own charts to represent the performance in the game - explain your choice of charts
Finally, explain statistically who the winner is (and also, why it might not just be the person who thew Santa the furthest!)




SlingShot Santa score
If your teacher just catches you playing the game without any performance analysis you'll probably just get thrown off anyway. This is an end-of-term fun activity but you need to be proving your ICT skills at the same time!
